A fairy tale wedding...

Reverend Jessica Bender officiated this ceremony outdoors among their family and friends.

I loved this idea for favors:  Succulents in tiny metal pots served as placetags for guests.

Tans' Vows Renewal, April 19, 2014 = Abundance and JOY

This anniversary at a time of renewal like Easter was quite fitting.  Seemed like every part of it was hand-made, and was full of succulence, spirit, and reverence with the couple surrounded by family and friends.

The ceremony itself was meaningful and alive, a moment of honoring their marriage with the mark of this celebration.  It was a unique expression of their values, and a fun and meaningful time for all who were present.

It was planned very well, and included their family in the festivities to make it a truly glorious event.  They used mostly local foods and drink, much of which was made by the family themselves.  The end result? A full sensory experience that was enjoyed by all who were a part of it.

Rick and Jennifer’s Vow Renewal was a perfectly timed event to celebrate over Easter weekend because this family represents abundance in many forms, and continues to grow in the variety of virtues and strengths that they value.  The food, the flowers, even the clothing they wore was sourced through means that made sense to their budget and values.

The whole family was adorned with lavender, rosemary, dusty miller, and olive branches.  Jennifer embraced the use of herbs to clear the air with a fresh and calming scent, and since Rosemary signifies remembrance and fidelity, it seemed like a perfect herb for this occasion.

Lavender is calming and balancing, and represents Love and Inner Peace.  It is also good for purification and protection, brings out intuitive strength, and helps to overcome feelings of panic.  It is an excellent herb to include for any emotional event like a wedding or a vow renewal.

Many of the flowers and greens came directly from their garden, and I added herbs, flowers, and some supplies to make bouquets and hair wreaths for the girls, boutonnieres for the boys, and centerpieces for the tables. We decorated in a rustic way, adding touches of nature to the already beautiful outdoor setting.

Petals and flowers were collected for the flower ceremony in which guests and the children came forward to the altar and placed flowers in hanging jars to symbolize their honor and support of the couple.

The altar was created by Rick.  He collected and turned local pussy willow and plum tree cuttings especially for the occasion.

Music was a special part of this ceremony.  Their children performed the same song, True Love, that they had at their wedding.  They co-wrote it after they had dated for 3 months.

Napkins and silverware were tied with crocheted twine, and the glasses, plates, and silverware were purchased at a local thrift store.

Dolmas reminisce a tradition Jennifer did with her family growing up.  They were delicious!  Lumpiya were made by Rick's mother.  It was so special that both of their backgrounds were honored in these small yet meaningful ways.  Their son, Wilson, made a special Artichoke dip and Chai tea.
